MARGAO: Angered villagers of Camurlim, Raia took the Executive Engineer Works Division VI, PWD to task over the long-pending issue of deteriorated road from Uzro to Sonfator. The panchayat and villagers have threatened agitation, if the road is not mended in next 15 days.
In a memorandum to the Engineer, the Camurlim Raia panchayat said it is a final reminder to the office of the PWD Executive Engineer – roads division, to take up immediate repair of the portion of National Highway No-5 from Uzro to Sonfator that is nearly two kms long.
People said the road was in a dilapidated condition and creates lot of inconvenience to villagers, especially those residing along the stretch.
The issue was taken up by the gram sabha and the panchayat body later wrote to Roads Division in July and August. However, there no heed was paid to their request.
The bad road stretch in the past had taken almost nine lives, with severe and major accidents occurring on the stretch. Potholes developed on the road and the temporary rubble-packing done in patches could not resolve the issue.
The neglected road also contributes to dust pollution, affecting nearby residents. The dust pollution has also affected the paddy fields.
The office of the village panchayat of Camurlim Raia said in the notice that if the road stretch was not repaired within the next 15 days, the locals would agitate on the road and the PWD would be held be responsible for the consequences.
