MARGAO: The Indian Super League (ISL) organisers have informed the South Goa collector that they can manage their own security details and that the first home match of FC Goa would be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium, Fatorda.
This was conveyed during a meeting that the ISL organisers had with the collector.
After lots of scepticism over the holding of match at Fatorda stadium, the ISL organisers have finally decided to deploy their own men to manage the security and traffic without depending on the Goa police.
Confirming the undertaking given by the ISL organisers, Collector Swapnil Naik said, “The ISL organisers came for a meeting in the morning and told me that they would be bringing 500 private security personnel from beyond Goa. The Superintendent of Police has agreed to the arrangement and they are, now, discussing the entire layout (of security and traffic arrangement) with the SP.”
The traffic arrangements and routes remain the same as ISL 2015 and an advertisement of the same would be published on the local dailies, Naik informed.
Traffic Police Inspector Mohan Gaude informed that a whopping 380 staff was employed for traffic arrangements last ISL.
Meanwhile, confusion prevailed among residents of Ambaji and around the areas around Fatorda stadium who have complained of no provision of passes or intimation for the access to their houses on match day. Worried of trouble on Saturday, the people met the deputy collector to find a solution to the problem.
Fear and anxiety have been expressed by the residents over problems entering the streets towards their houses on the stadium road. Like ISL 2015, the residents this time have not been issued passes.
The residents said, “This ISL organisers have put us all in trouble and if they stop us on Saturday at last minute, we will block the road and not let any traffic ply.”
When contacted Traffic PI Gaude on how he would deal with the fears of the residents, he said that he has still not received the intimation on what the ISL organisers plan to do.
Meanwhile, the deputy collector has convened an urgent meeting on Saturday of SDPO Traffic, SDPO Salcete, Margao Police Inspector and Traffic Police Inspector with the ISL organisers to find a solution to the problem.
