CANACONA, OCT 19
Good news to farmers whose paddy fields and coconut groves were destroyed by wild animals! The government has plans to compensate for the losses incurred by them.
According to Poinguinim MLA Ramesh Tawadkar, the government officials concerned would visit Shree Parashuram Temple Hall, Poinguinim, on Thursday morning and accept compensation claim forms from the affected farmers and residents.
“The compensation claimants/affected farmers have to bring copies of Form I and XIV along with the claim forms,” informed Tawadkar.
It may be recalled that several residents in the taluka, especially in Galgibaga and Sadolxem, claimed that Monkeys damaged their house roof tops and other domestic cultivations.
There are similar complaints by farmers of Poinguinim, Loliem, Cotigao, Gaondongrim and Shristhal that their paddy fields, especially at flowering stage and beyond, are badly destroyed by wild boars, peacocks and other animals.
Farmers at Agonda and Khola too have cited destruction of their paddy fields by wild boars, besides monkey menaces causing losses due to breaking of roof tiles. Last week, some residents joined by Poinguinim MLA and sarpanchas of Ponguinim and Loliem-Polem held a meeting with the Forest and Agriculture officers and called for suitable compensation, besides to work out ways to curb such activities.
