Canacona Deputy Collector Velancio Furtado and Mamlatdar Vinayak Volvoikar convened a meeting on Thursday to discuss the steps to be taken to avoid monsoon disaster in Canacona taluka.
Personnel of various government departments, media and prominent citizens of the taluka were invited to the meet. During the meeting, it was pointed out by a citizen that Canacona taluka faces frequent power failures during the monsoon due to falling of branches of trees.
The mamlatdar instructed forest, PWD and electricity departments to survey and identify the trees that could fall on the power supply cables so that electricity supply is not disrupted.
Canacona CHC Health Officer Dr Murlidharan was instructed to see that doctors were available round the clock to attend to the people in need of emergency treatment and further the CMC and the Health Service department personnel were directed to take up preventive measures to see that breeding of mosquitoes does not take place.
The issue of clogging of drains and narrowing of the old drains by builders was raised by Premanand Pagi and it was decided to conduct a survey and take remedial measures.
The ADEI of Canacona was issued strict warning that all schools in the taluka should be repaired by June 15 and a favourable atmosphere should be made for the schoolchildren.
Canacona police were also directed to keep a check on fish-laden vehicles that spill fish water, which makes the roads slippery, thereby risking the lives of the people.
They have also been directed to give a weekly report in this fiasco that the men in uniform seldom take action on the violators.
Specific instructions were given by deputy collector and mamlatdar to the personnel of various departments to immediately conduct site inspection and take up remedial measures.
