CANACONA: Goa Renal (Kidney) Support Association (GRSA) in coordination with Lions Club of Canacona organized a kidney awareness programme at Lions House, Canacona on Sunday.
On the occasion GRSA did renal profile blood tests of kidney patients and also distributed free medical aids, like dialyzer and tubing for Hemodialysis patients and transfer set, dialysis fluid for peritoneal dialysis patients.
GSRA president spoke about Canacona town as having been identified as the key area of kidney ailments but seeing the overall scenario, it is not, felt GSRA.
“The issue is being blown out of proportion, as looking at the trend in the State, there are more than 600 kidney patients on dialysis in various hospitals, while there are only 30 patients from Canacona taluka,” stated Swatii Naik, GSRA president.
“Kidney ailments are spread all over Goa and GSRA has taken the lead to create awareness through their campaigns. High blood pressure and blood sugar are the main causes that create kidney ailments,” stated GSRA Secretary Mamta Dhond.
Canacona municipal Council Chairperson Simon Rebello, was the chief guest and spoke on the occasion. Canacona Lions President Dr Vilas Pawaskar, GSRA president Swati Naik, Vice-president Agnela Rodrigues, Secretary Mamta Dhond, and fund raising coordinator Dr Robinson D’Costa were present.
During the interaction later, kidney patients highlighted their pains as they have to travel 3-4 times to Margao for dialysis treatment, and the need to have a good dialysis unit at Canacona itself.
