Canacona polling peaceful, 84.33 % vote

CANACONA: The elections to the seven panchayats with four wards already declared won unopposed, held peacefully at the remaining 53 wards with 84.33 % casting their votes even though it rained cats and dogs in Canacona.

CANACONA: The elections to the seven panchayats with four wards already declared won unopposed, held peacefully at the remaining 53 wards with 84.33 % casting their votes even though it rained cats and dogs in Canacona.
The entire Taluka witnessed heavy rains for the entire day and voters mostly old and differently-abled found it difficult to reach the polling booths. There were minor complains of violations and the flying squads were on their toes till the polling got over at 5 pm. The Returning Officer Ramesh Gaonkar later gave the details of the elections as follow: Loliem with 9 wards had 75.84% voting, Painginuim with 9 wards had 77.80% voting, Cotigao with 7 wards registered 92.48% voting, Gaondogrem with 9 wards registered 88.99% voting, Shristhal with 7 wards registered 85.56% voting, Agonda with 7 wards registered 82.22% voting, Cola with 9 wards had 87.43% voting. Counting will be held on June 13 at Conference hall of Mamlatdar office.  
As per the RO all the ballot boxes will be stored in the strong room at Mamlatdar office under strong security till the counting.
 which will start at 8 am on June 13, no poll related untoward incident was reported in the taluka.
