Canacona youth falls from scooter due to dug-up road, dies

MARGAO: Sangharsh Lolienkar, a 24-year-old resident of Canacona, was killed after his scooter allegedly got stuck in mud and concrete left on the road from ongoing road work near Margao.

The police have registered the case as a ‘self-accident’. The mishap occurred as Lolienkar, who worked in Verna, was returning home from work at around 8.30 pm. Police sources said that his scooter got stuck along a dug-up section of road in an area that falls within the Colva Police jurisdiction. The youth fell off the scooter and sustained serious injuries on his chest, besides broken ribs. The road in question was made into a one-way for traffic, due to the road infra work. Head Constable Sandesh Gadker said that Lolienkar was initially rushed to the South Goa District Hospital. However, due to the severity of his injuries, he was referred to the Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim, where he succumbed.
