A 30-year-old woman from Canca has accused her husband and in-laws of harassing her on the pretext of dowry.
In her compliant, the victim told Mapusa police that she was married in February 2010 and within 15 days of marriage, her husband and in-laws started harassing her. “They assaulted and ill-treated me demanding dowry,” stated the woman in the complaint.
According to Mapusa police, her in-laws and her husband were repeatedly asking her to get cash of Rs 1 lakh and jewelry from her parents.
“The situation got aggravated and on Monday, the victim’s husband allegedly tried to set her on fire by pouring kerosene. However, the woman managed to escape with the help of a cousin of her husband and filed a complaint with Mapusa police,” informed police.
Police have registered an offence against her husband and PSI Udai Gawde is investigating the case.
