PANJIM: Only a few sweet marts in Panjim have received bulk orders for sweets as political parties and candidates are unsure of what the EVMs will throw up on Saturday morning. Only a few have already placed orders for sweets anticipating their victory on Saturday.
Speaking to Herald, Mithai Mandir Proprietor, Nitin Maganlal said, “I cannot disclose details but yes, two political parties have given bulk order of around 300 to 350 kg of sweets which includes ladoos and pedas which will be delivered to them tomorrow.”However, there has been a massive decline in orders for sweets as compared to the last elections. Sweet marts owners told Herald that the number of orders this election has decreased from the last time as the results are highly unpredictable and can swing any way which has led candidates and party supporters refrain from placing advance orders.
Navneet Zaveri, who manages Gujarat Sweet Mart said, “We have not received any such orders neither have we been approached by political parties.” Mishra Pedha in Panjim confirmed that BJP had made inquiries but has placed no order with them.
Meanwhile, flower vendors in Taleigao said there have been no orders for garlands but they are eagerly waiting for Saturday hoping supporters will come to them and purchase garlands.
“I have not received any orders for flower garlands. Last time we had lots of orders; this is because, no party is sure of winning. I guess on counting day if the candidate is leading, supporters might come to buy garlands,” Kalpesh Trivedi, a flower vendor from Taliegao said.
