CANDOLIM: The Candolim gram sabha on Sunday decided to convert the village football ground into a state-of-the-art football stadium.
Sarpanch Blaize Fernandes informed the villagers that the panchayat has already commenced the works of converting the ground into a modern football stadium.
The issues discussed at the gram sabha included law and order problem, tampering of video footage of last gram sabha, felling of trees on the Sinquerim hill etc.
A local Roshan Mathias and sarpanch were involved in a heated debate over the tampering of the video footage recorded at the previous gram sabha.
“The panchayat presented an edited footage of the previous gram sabha meeting to the villagers, which did not show MLA Michael Lobo speaking,” Roshan Mathias alleged.
As soon as the minutes were read out, Roshan brought it to the notice of the sarpanch that the minutes of the previous gram sabha which were video recorded have been manipulated and the speech of the MLA in attendance was missing.
He requested the Sarpanch to add the MLA’s speech and demanded that the previous minutes of the meeting be re-tabled. The sarpanch denied the allegations stating that the panchayat did not provide an edited footage of the previous gram sabha.
Another villager pointed out to the Sarpanch that no action was taken on the issue of felling of trees on the Sinqueirm hill.
The Sarpanch said the area where the hill cutting took place was not mentioned and hence they couldn’t act against the same.
A local, Vincent Fernandes highlighted the law and order problem in the village and proposed constant police patrolling to keep a tab on robberies in the village.
The Sarpanch assured the villagers that the law and order problem in the village will be tackled on priority.
“We will be installing surveillance cameras and will try to employ security men. This will be the first village in the whole of India where security surveillance cameras will be installed to keep a check on the nefarious acts,” he said.
Another villager Lourenco Silveira brought to the notice of the Sarpanch that a website promoting sex tourism in the State where college girls and housewives were offered for prostitution.
He demanded that action be taken against the same and a resolution was passed to act in this regard.
Two locals were involved in a fight with regards to the above issue, however the police intervened and brought the situation under control.
Roshan raised the issue of proliferation of high rise buildings in the village and asked the people to oppose the same as it would spoil the village beauty.
He proposed that any construction having more than ground plus two should not be allowed in Candolim.
The Sarpanch accepted the proposal and added that it would require time to word it legally.
A resolution was also passed against CRZ draft 2018.
