Almeida submitted her resignation letter to Director of Panchayat Gurudatt Pillankar.
According to reliable sources, Almeida who is working as a teacher in an aided school at Cansaulim resigned as she was unable to devote time to the villagers in the morning session.
It is also learnt that Almeida was under pressure from the school management to resign from the post of the sarpanch. Sources informed that the school management has also asked Almeida to resign as panch.
When attempts were made to contact Almeida on her mobile phone, the call was received by her friend who claimed that Almeida was busy and disconnected the call.
When contacted, Directorate of Panchayats Gurudatt Pilankar admitted that Almeida had resigned from the post of sarpanch on Monday citing personal reasons.
“Almeida’s resignation letter will be accepted and election will be held for the vacant post of the sarpanch within 10 days,” said Pilankar.
