Carambolim Panchayat has decided to set up a Vermi Composting unit in the village.
According to sources in panchayat, about 8,000 sq mtrs of land has been identified for setting up the unit in the jurisdiction of Carambolim Panchayat. The unit would be utilized only for composting garbage being collected from Carambolim.
Speaking to Herald, Carambolim Sarpanch Balchandra Usgoankar said the process of land acquisition is almost complete and the project will be taken up using panchayat funds.
“I will see that I complete the project before the end of my panchayat term,” said the sarpanch.
When asked whether the panchayat would recruit labourers for the collection of garbage in Carambolim jurisdiction, he said the panchayat would recruit labourers from Carambolim jurisdiction for garbage collection and also for the Vermi Composting unit through NREG Scheme.
“Presently, the panchayat is in the process of collecting dry waste from the village, which is later handed to a contractor, who then takes it to a composting unit,” added Sarpanch Usgoankar.
