Almeida tendered his resignation to the office of the Speaker expressing his discontent over the party. He is the second BJP MLA from Mormugao taluka and in State to quit BJP in last one week, while he is the sixth MLA to resign from the State assembly during recent times.

Speaking to the reporters, Almeida said that he was upset with BJP on various issues but importantly because he was asked to work under Krishna alias Daji Salkar in the constituency against whom he has filed a case of comunidade land scam.

“There are many reasons due to which I quit the party, but most importantly BJP has bypassed me. BJP of today is not like how it was during Parrikar’s time. Today, the party has taken a landscamster and has asked me to work under him. How can I do that, when I have only complained against him and have accused him in comunidade land scam,” said Almeida.

When asked which party he will join, Almeida said, “There are many parties in touch with me but I will take final decision only after today’s meeting with supporters.”
