OLD GOA: The Statue of Our Lady of Mount Carmel was installed by the Discalced Carmelites on Saturday, in the garden of St Joseph Vaz Spiritual Renewal Centre, Cruz dos Milagres, Old Goa.
The statue is installed in memory of the Carmelites who built the convent on this hill in the 1600s, the celebration of 400 years of Carmelite Presence in India (1619-2019) and the Extraordinary Definitory of the Order, being held here from February 3-11. The statue was blessed by Dr Saverio Cannistrà OCD, Superior General of the Order of Discalced Carmelites.
Others present on the occasion were Dr Johannes Gorantla, Definitor General for India, Fr Charles Serrão, Provincial Superior of Karnataka-Goa province, Dr Archibald Gonsalves, Convenor of the Steering committee for the celebration of 400 years of Carmelite presence in India, Dr Henry Falcão, Director of St Joseph Vaz Spiritual Renewal Centre and Fr Xavier Braganza, Assistant Director of the Centre.
