Carmona villagers oppose amendment to TCP Act, say no to road widening

MARGAO: Fearing backdoor entry to real estate projects, Carmona villagers resolved to oppose  amendment to the Town and Country Planning (TCP) act in addition to the TCPs efforts in acquiring and widening of internal village roads to 10 metres.

On Sunday, Village panchayat Carmona held a special gram sabha to discuss and deliberate on legal solutions to fight the proposal made by the TCP Board, which the locals fear that it is aimed at allowing mega projects in villages.

Several villagers expressed their views and expressed fear of backdoor entry to the mega projects.

Villagers further stated that TCP cannot impose themselves on villages as per the panchayat raj act of 1994, as order and gazette notification of March 13, 2008 series 1 number 50 ward development committees are doing the planning for the wards.

After lengthy deliberation villagers unanimously resolved to write to the TCP Minister, Local MLA, Town Planner and District Collector pertaining to opposing the amendment to the Town and Country Planning (TCP) act in addition to the TCPs efforts in acquiring and widening of internal village roads to 10 metres.
