Carter affirms backing for ‘Make in India’

PANJIM: The US Defence Ministry has affirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Make in India initiative will be certainly reflected in the defence activities between USA and India.

PANJIM: The US Defence Ministry has affirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Make in India initiative will be certainly reflected in the defence activities between USA and India.
Speaking to select group of reporters after his visit to the Basilica of Bom Jesus at Old Goa on Sunday evening, US Defence Secretary Ashton Carter said both the countries are strategic partners. 
“Make in India is on Prime Minister Modi’s priority list and (Manohar) Parrikar is reflecting it into our defence activities by stressing co-production, co-development and technology sharing,” Carter said in presence of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
Carter elaborated that it is much different rather than simple manner in which India buys military systems from other countries. “We are going to have different kind of relations on the defence front,” he added.
Asked whether his second visit to India holds significance, Carter replied in positive. “Of course it is because India and US have so many activities that they are doing together to help secure this part of the world and other parts of the world. We have a great partner in the form of India, and our interests overlap in many important ways. We are together to make world safer,” he commented.
On his visit to Bom Jesus Basilica, Carter said. “I am honoured to be at such a Holy place. I am grateful for my hosts for having me invited here.”
