Casarvarnem main road culvert may collapse; needs urgent repairs

PERNEM: A culvert on the main road in Casarvarnem near Shri Mahadev Temple is likely to collapse at any time. The cement concrete layer beneath the culvert has collapsed, thus exposing the iron rods that have already rusted. It is high time the government takes up the repair works on the culvert or construct a new bridge if required, demanded Congress leaders Adv Jitendra Gaonkar, Uday Mahale, Bhaskar Narulkar and others after inspecting the bridge.

The PWD has totally ignored the culvert, putting the lives of motorists in danger. If the culvert collapses, there may be a lot of problems as there is no alternative road for locals. The local panchayat members had moved a resolution during the panchayat meeting to construct a new culvert at the site. However there has been no follow up from concerned authorities. Local residents are demanding that the government should construct the bridge at the earliest for safety and convenience of motorists.

Adv Gaonkar said that the elected representatives and the government has failed to solve the problems and issues of locals. It is spending on unwanted and unnecessary projects and functions by ignoring the basic needs, of the people.

Uday Mahale said that this culvert is important for locals and many motorists use it on a daily basis and it could be a major disaster if it collapses.

Bhaskar Narulkar said, the old and dilapidated culverts are posing danger to motorists. Such issues should be addressed on priority, he said.
