PANJIM: After uproar in social media and a subsequent petition regarding illegal encroachments on the footpath done by Maharaja Casino, the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) on Wednesday granted the casino four weeks to remove the encroachment.
Herald on June 12 had reported that Maharaja Casino ticketing counter continues to dot the Captain of Ports jetty in the capital city while, the authorities seem to be busy involved in a blame game.
“Today the casino management approached CCP seeking time of four weeks for the removal of their structure which lies on the footpath and we have agreed and granted them that time keeping in mind the monsoons also. It was revealed to us that they had the required permission for setting up their office from the Captain of Ports (CoP) but later they clarified saying that it was a mistake,” CCP Commissioner Ajit Roy said.
He added, “As we have given the casino management time, CCP will continuously be keeping a tab on the progress during that period. The management has agreed for the same while confirming that the structure would be removed.”
