The protest match which commenced at the Cavelossim-Assolna bridge culminated at the Cavelossim Church on Saturday evening and was attended by around 300 people.
Speaking on the occasion, CVF president Aires Passanha spoke of the selfless work and care by Mother Teresa without even looking at the religious background of the downtrodden from the slums of Kolkata. He called for unity amongst Goans to foil attempts by disruptive forced to spoil peace.
Assolna villager Heronico Fernandes said, “Since we are the followers of one faith, we cannot let anyone deny our right to practice our religion.”
Cavelossim villager Fr Eremito Rebelo enlightened the people on the origin of Christianity in the village and also in Goa. He explained that the religious harmony in Goa which has existed for ages is at stake because of the RSS and VHP’s instigating the peaceful Hindu brethren.
Saying that Hindu scriptures profess only peace and love, Fr Eremito said that only a handful of Hindus are spreading religious hatred, while majority of the Hindus are peace loving people.
He strongly condemned the BJP government in Goa for allowing such organizations to promote religious hatred in the State.
