MARGAO: The bad conditions of the main road from Cavelossim to Benaulim were highlighted at the Cavelossim gram sabha held on Sunday. Sarpanch Viola Costa chaired the meeting.
The villagers expressed their concerns over the current state and vented their grievances regarding it and were worried about the spate of accidents
They demanded that the road be hotmixed at the earliest before the monsoon season begins. There was also a discussion on the demands for access to the beaches.
However, the issue of alleged illegal constructions was the bone of contention at the gram sabha. The villagers called for the GCZMA to take action against the alleged illegal structures that have violated the CRZ regulations and come up post 1991.
Commenting on this resolution taken by the villagers, former Sarpanch and panch Edwin Barreto questioned what would happen to the local fishermen who would be affected if such action is taken and added that he would stand behind the locals that will be affected if any action is taken against them.
On the issue of the budget for the financial year 2016-17, the villagers demanded that the panchayat prepares the annual budget factoring in the estimates prepared by the village development committees on the development works proposed by them and confirming the same with the BDO.
