PANJIM: Crime Branch sleuths on Thursday searched the office of the Deputy Collector, Mapusa, to locate ‘missing’ files related to the land conversion in the Serula Comunidade scam.
The case has around 25 persons including some staff of the comunidade as accused, who are facing investigation.
CB Superintendent of Police, Kartik Kashyap said 14 files pertaining to the case have been found. Sources also said that certain other files regarding sanads, issued by the deputy collector’s office to beneficiaries are yet to be located. The missing documents were allegedly forged, and the search will continue, an officer said.
Last year, inquiry officer in the scam, Srinet Kothwale, had found presence of illegal, large-scale commercial structures on the property. The report had pointed out to several illegal constructions on government land and revealed that the officer found rampant document forgery and that most files were missing.
North Goa Collector Nila Mohanan said that Crime Branch was armed with a search warrant to inspect some files related to conversion in the Serula Comunidade case.
