CB to challenge Digambar’s bail order in HC

PANJIM: Trouble seems to be following former chief minister Digambar Kamat, as Crime Branch has decided to challenge before the High Court the anticipatory bail granted by the Special Court.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said he would not like to interfere in the case but if the investigating agency wants to challenge the bail order, he will give his consent.
“If Crime Branch feels that it is a genuine case then they are free to do that (approach the High Court). I will not force them to appeal in the higher court. I will give go ahead if they approach me asking for the permission,” Parsekar said.
“It is for the Crime Branch to decide on the future of the case. I have never interfered in their investigation,” he added.
Kamat was granted anticipatory bail by the Special Court on Wednesday morning and Crime Branch was to challenge the order in the High Court the same evening, but due to a technical problem failed to do so.
Parsekar, asked whether the government would consider handing over the case to CBI, said, “We will have to wait and see how CB now takes forward the case. Let their investigation be completed,” he said.
