PANJIM: The CBI headquarters New Delhi has accepted to investigate the Vasco minor rape case, officials said Saturday, after Goa Police failed to crack the case.
The Goa government had sent a request asking the CBI to take over the case after its Goa police made no headway in solving the case.
CBI Goa SP Prem Kumar confirmed that the CBI headquarters in New Delhi has accepted the case for investigation, but declined to give any more details.
The minor was allegedly raped inside a school toilet at Vasco on January 14, 2013 and the culprit is still at large. The school management has been charged with destroying evidence.
In May, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar recommended a CBI probe into the case after admitting that investigations by special investigation team hit a dead end. A notification in this regard was issued in June.
