CURCHOREM: Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) during the first council meeting held on Tuesday after relaxation in lockdown congratulated the Non-Residents Indian Commissioner Narendra Sawaikar for launching a portal for registration process of NRI of Goa origin including seafarers and those who are stranded and wish to return.
Besides, Chairperson Balkrishna (Pinty) Hodarkar, Chief Officer Ajay Gaude, councillors, engineers and local MLA and Power Minister Nilesh Cabral attended the meeting which was held in the municipal hall wearing face mask and keeping a social distance.
The council also congratulated Chief Minister, Health Minister, employees of the Directorate of Health Services including doctors and nurses, Quepem Deputy Collector, police for working tirelessly during the lockdown period putting their life at risk to keep the general public safe and particularly for garbage collection workers for keeping the town clean.
Later, briefing the media, Cabral said that the council meeting was held almost after four months from the last meeting held in December last year and taken various resolution besides presenting and approving the Budget for the financial year 2020-21.
“The pending work including pre-monsoon maintenance in all the wards of the Council will be taken on war footing as rainy season is approaching,” said Cabral.
“As many establishments remained closed during the lockdown period the Council decided to urged the government to grant them permission to waive off two months rent of the shops in the municipal buildings provided the lessees must pay full rent upto March 31 this year,” said Cabral.
“The Council also resolved to issue tender for sopo collection and to give extension to contractor to collect garbage till the tender is issued for which necessary permission will be obtain from the government so that collection work should not hamper,” he added.
Regarding grant received from Finance Commission of Central government, Cabral said that council decided to open two separate accounts for it. One to directly deposit grant received from government which will be operated jointly by Director of Municipal Administration (DMA), chief officer and chairperson and after according sanctions from DMA the required amount will be transferred to next account which will be operated by municipal authority.
The council passed and approved Budget of Rs 56.86 crore for the financial year 2020-21 and decided to demand to release at least this year’s municipal share of octroi collected by the government as they did not get it last year.
Many tourist attraction places are there in South Goa too, it is decided to request the government to allot one vehicle with sweeping and cleaning machine like how they allot to North Goa.
