PANJIM: The state government departments and service providers have been told by the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) to remove their utility lines that have been laid by them through the drains within the city civic limits.
“Utility lines of different departments are running through drains, which cause a lot of problems in the monsoon. The moment five-six plastic bottles get washed in drains, our entire drainage network gets choked. So, we have to correct these things, and we have requested all the agencies to shift all utility lines. They shouldn’t interfere with drains in the city,” CCP Mayor RohitMonserrate said.
He informed that the BSNL has already agreed to shift their lines and junction boxes from the drains in the city.
Deputy Mayor SanjeevNaik said that utility lines such as electric, cable, fibre optic line, water line etc have been laid through drains which create hindrances to CCP workers while undertaking the work of desilting drains.
“The concerned agencies and the departments ought to shift the (utility) lines before the onset of the monsoon,” Naik said.
