PANJIM: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has granted in-principle approval to the State Electricity Department to replace 4,400 electric poles and for underground cabling in the Panjim City.
Panjim MLA Atanasio Monserrate on Monday chaired a crucial meeting to discuss all developmental works in the constituency. The meeting was attended by the officials of CCP, PWD, Electricity Department, Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), Sewerage Corporation and others.

During the meeting, the Electricity Department put up the proposal to replace 4,400 electric poles from Ribandar to Dona Paula and also new underground cabling. “The CCP has granted them in-principle approval. They have been directed to complete the work of road digging by March-end,” he said.
Speaking to media persons post meeting, Mayor Uday Madkaikar said the Corporation has directed all the concerned departments to complete all works related to road digging by March-end; failing which no further permissions will be granted.
“In April, we will be taking up hot mixing of city roads,” he said.
During the meeting, GSIDC was directed to complete the long pending work of the bridge, connecting EDC Patto to Neugi Nagar. “The authorities have assured to complete the bridge by February-end or first week of March,” he said.
Madkaikar said the GSIDC has been directed to do proper barricading or to put up signages at the KTC bus stand circle, as the junction has turned out into an accident-prone zone, in absence of proper road laning.
The Mayor said the MLA will hold monthly review to oversee the progress of the developmental works.
