CCP has limited role in granting licence to casinos

PANJIM: Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Uday Madkaikar on Wednesday said that granting licences to casino operators was the responsibility of the State government and Corporation play a limited role.

“It is the government that has given permission/licences to operate casinos and not CCP, whose role is limited to issuing trade licences to them,” Madkaikar said adding that the CCP had collected Rs 58 lakh. 

Responding to queries from media persons about the nature of content on the LED boards displayed by casino operators outside their offices, Madkaikar refused to comment on it. “If anybody files complaint, the CCP would look into it”, he said.

He however reiterated his demand to relocate off-shore casino vessels from river Mandovi. He said the government was yet to finalise site to relocate casino vessels.
