PANJIM, FEB 18 : Nelson Cabral, a candidate of the BJP-backed panel from Ward II for the CCP polls, on Friday filed a complaint before the assistant returning officer alleging voters were being lured with all kinds of goodies, including household articles and gadgets.
Cabral maintained voters are being lured with funds for repair, renovation and reconstruction of residential and commercial premises. These activities go on during late hours to hoodwink the election commission machinery, he stated.
Pointing out that the election expenditure limit was Rs 75,000, he asserted “there is complete breach of Clause 9 of the Code of Conduct.”
Making a serious allegation, he stated that some government employees were canvassing along with a Cabinet minister in his ward. “Canvassing and campaigning by government employees for monetary gains is a standard practice here,” he charged. He further pointed out that Clause 8 of the Election Code of Conduct stipulates appointment of observers to seek intervention by the government authority to stop violation of the election code.
