PANJIM: Panjim Mayor Surendra Furtado has written to the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) requesting for four rickshaws for garbage collection.
Furtado in his letter to the Member Secretary of GSUDA stated that the government agency has provided all the municipal councils in the State with rickshaws for garbage collection except the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP).
He said, “Corporation is the first Urban Local Body (ULB) in the State to undertake proper segregation and disposal of garbage within its jurisdiction.” He further stated that GSUDA has supplemented CCP’s efforts by supplying 30,000 garbage bins free of cost.
Furtado, in view of the CCP’s efforts for proper solid waste management stated, “It is therefore requested to kindly provide four rickshaws to this Corporation for collection of garbage in smaller lanes and localities in Panjim city and to make the city clean and beautiful under the Swaccha Bharat Mission of the Government of India.”
