PANJIM: Citing financial crunch in the current COVID pandemic, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has stalled all developmental works across 30 wards for three months. However, only those works, wherein work orders were issued are permitted.
Addressing media persons on Thursday, City Mayor Uday Madkaikar said that the Corporation is facing a lot of revenue loss due to the delay or slow payment of house tax, licence renewal fees, etc. “Also, several people, who were owing shops, have made applications to cancel their licence,” he said.

Hence, Madkaikar said the Corporation has decided not to undertake any developmental work in the 30 wards, for the next three months. “Only those works, wherein work orders have been issued or tenders have been floated, are being allowed,” he said.
The Mayor added that the councillors have always extended full support during the pandemic.
Meanwhile, in view of three-day complete lockdown, the City Municipal market, fish and meat market and all the shops within CCP jurisdiction will remain shut.
“While door-to-door garbage collection will take place on Friday and Saturday, the service will not be available on Sunday,” Madkaikar said.
The Mayor added that with rising cases in Chimbel and Camrabhat areas, around 170 daily wage workers from the localities, have been given a break from duty. “They were mostly into garbage collection,” he said.
“Due to the lack of manpower, we were forced to get 200 people, deployed for other works, including garbage collection and sorting of waste,” he explained.
