CCP to auction 250 vehicles

PANJIM: As many as 250 unclaimed vehicles lying abandoned in Panjim will be auctioned by the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), soon.

The Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Panaji will be entrusted with the task of evaluating these vehicles, based on which the base price for the auction would be decided.
CCP Commissioner Sanjit Rodigues said they are waiting for an order from the district magistrate to dispose the 250 vehicles identified by the corporation for auction.
“ITI Panaji will be asked to conduct the evaluation of the vehicles. It will help us to fix the base price for two-wheelers, four-wheelers and other vehicles,” he said.
Following directives from the district magistrate in September 2013, CCP had identified 138 unclaimed abandoned vehicles. Later in 2014 another 110 were added to this number. The vehicles are scattered along various streets, especially opposite Panjim traffic cell and EDC Patto Plaza.
The north district Magistrate through a notification on June 18 directed SDMs and CCP to auction the unclaimed vehicles in Tiswadi taluka after its respective owners failed to take possession despite reminders.
In September 2013, the government had issued a notification asking owners of such vehicles to submit their claims, if any, to the concerned SDMs within six months. The time-frame lapsed with the local authority not in receipt of any claim so far.
