CCP to sign Milan Urban Food Foundation Pact

Implement the international best practices of food safety and nutrition

PANJIM: The Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) will soon sign the Milan Urban Food Foundation Pact (MUFPP), which will drive the capital city in implementing the international best practices of food safety and nutrition. Panjim has already emerged as a winner among top 10 cities in the country of the EatSmart City Challenge.

According to CCP commissioner Agnelo A J Fernandes, the focus will now on implementing Eat Right Initiatives in Panjim like hygiene rating for restaurant, sweet marts, bakeries etc where these outlets will display a hygiene score on their door thus giving the consumer an insight on the hygiene they follow. Repurposed Used Cooking Oil (RUCO), which is a mechanism to collect used cooking oil from restaurants and use the same for making bio-diesel thus will eliminate the possibility of this oil re-entering the food chain and will also facilitate environmentally friendly method to dispose oil.

The Corporation will also focus on Eat Right School Initiative to promote healthy eating habits among school children, clean and fresh fruit and vegetable market certification for Panjim market and identifying clean street food hubs by shifting the street food vendors to specific vending zone within the city. Probable areas to establish food vending carts have been identified while, a steering committee has been constituted to review the implementation of the Eat Right Programmes.
