MOPA (PERNEM): Asserting that no polluting industries will be promoted in Goa, the Union Commerce Ministry has decided to make Goa a national hub for start-ups.
“We have already decided to make Goa as a national hub for start-ups. I have already had discussions with the State IT Minister Rohan Khaunte on this issue and we are working on the plan,” Union Commerce Minister Suresh Prabhu told media persons on Saturday.
“For start-ups you need great ideas and one can get ideas only in place like Goa where your feel very close to the nature,” he said. “In Goa we have already decided we will not bring in any polluting industry,” the Minister said.
Citing an example, the Minister said that renowned cartoonist Mario Miranda would not have been so successful, if he was not born in Goa.
“If you can give start-up ideas emanating from Goa, we are ready to support it,” Prabhu said.
In another announcement, Prabu said the Union AYUSH Ministry is planning to develop Goa as a destination for health/medical tourism.
