PANJIM: The Central government has constituted the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary Environment, for a period of three years.
An order issued on October 31 by the Union Ministry for Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) appoints Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Director Panchayats, Director Tourism, Director Industries, Chief Engineer Water Resources Department and Chief Engineer of Public Works Department as government members, with the Director Environment being the member secretary.
Savio Correia, Flaviano Miranda, Mahesh Patil and Sujeetkumar Dongre are expert members, while Shrirang Jambhale, representing NGO Gram Vikas Kendra from Savoi-Verm, is a non-government organisation member. “The Authority shall, for the purpose of protecting and improving the quality of the coastal environment and preventing, abating and controlling environmental pollution in the coastal regulation zone areas in the State,” the order stated.
The Authority has to regulate all development activities in CRZ areas and shall be responsible in enforcing and monitoring the prevention of the protected areas.
The Authority is directed to have its own website for the purpose of maintaining transparency in its functioning and the same shall be uploaded with information related to its functioning, including the agenda of its meeting, minutes, decisions taken, recommendations, etc.
