PANJIM: Taking cognizance of AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal’s election speeches in Goa, wherein he had asked people to accept money during the Assembly campaign, the Chief Electoral Office (CEO) has decided to recommend that the Election Commission of India (ECI) take necessary action against the Delhi Chief Minister.
“He (Kejriwal) is a star campaigner. We have received information about his statements. We will submit our report to the Election Commission of India to take appropriate action,” CEO Kunal said on Monday.
During his rallies in Goa last weekend, Kejriwal had asked people to accept money if given by BJP and Congress candidates but vote for AAP. He had said that if they offer Rs 5000 ask for Rs 10,000 as inflation has gone up. He even urged voters to only accept new currency notes.
Kejriwal had addressed four rallies in Goa on Saturday and Sunday at Benaulim, Vasco, Mapusa and Sanquelim.
“We are trying to get footage of Kejriwal’s rally. Once we get it we will submit a report to the ECI,” Additional CEO Narayan Navti said adding, “Since the model code of conduct is in force, he should not have asked voters to accept money. Such speech is in complete violation of the model code of conduct.”
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has filed two separate complaints against Kejriwal in this regard before the ECI. BJP Goa legal cell has demanded that action be initiated against Kejriwal under relevant Indian Penal Code sections for violation of code of conduct.
