CET fine, but do well in Board: DoTE

Some of the students appearing in the Goa Common Entrance Test to secure admissions to professional colleges give more attention to CET than concentrate on securing the minimum 50% marks in three subjects (say Physics, Chemistry and Maths for engineering) to make themselves eligible for admission.
Officials observed it is fine to score high marks in the CET but the Directorate of Technical Education will not consider those who fail to score the minimum 50% marks in three subjects required for clearing the eligibility criteria to get admission to professional degree courses.
A total of 3,424 students are appearing for CET at all centres on May 12 and 13 to vie for the 1,000 seats in professional colleges in the State. This time the number of students registered is 200 more than last year, said Deputy Director of Technical Education Pradeep Kusnoor.
All the 3,424 students are appearing for Physics and Chemistry, while from this figure 2,719, 2,528 and 263 are answering Maths, Biology and Computer Science, respectively.
Kusnoor said 135 students would appear for the G2CET at Fr Agnel Ashram in Verna and 197 in Panjim on May 14.
G2CET is conducted for diploma and BSc degree holders for direct admissions to second year degree courses in engineering and pharmacy.
He said this time DoTE had set up a facility at Ravindra Bhavan in Margao for the convenience of students appearing for CET from the Navelim, Verna and Curchorem examination centres. “The parents have applauded our efforts and we received 1,458 forms from there,” he said.
This year, the DoTE received the maximum applications of 497 for the Mapusa examination centre and the minimum of 200 from the Curchorem examination centre.
CET is held every year for entrance to professional colleges offering courses like medicine, engineering, dentistry, pharmacy and homeopathy.
