PERNEM: Shyam Gawas, aged 50 years old, Chandel resident, died after drowning in a water canal near Purva Health Centre, Kasarwane.
According to the police, deceased Shyam Gawas was travelling towards Chandel from Nagzar on an Activa scooter late night on Thursday when he lost control and fell into the water canal along the road side. On Friday morning, a local noticed the body floating in the water and immediately contacted the Pernem Police and fire station.

A team of Pernem Fire Station rushed to the spot and retrieved the scooter and the body with help of a rope and handed it over to Pernem Police. The deceased was working as security guard at the Mopa Airport site.
