“He was talking out of ignorance,” said a villager who had actually actively canvassed for the MLA at the last elections since he was a Congress candidate who has now defected to the Bharatiya Janata Party.

It may be recalled when Clafasio had gone to attend the Chandor Cavorim gram sabha on July 28, 2019 to clarify some matter, he was jeered and booed with people asking him whom did he consult before joining the BJP and one villager even likened his behaviour to that of monkey hopping trees.

The villagers present unanimously resolved to invite the MLA for an open discussion on the topic and directed the panchayat, through the sarpanch, to officially invite the MLA for the discussion.

Earlier, the villager Joy D’Silva who moved the motion objecting to CAA explained in detail what the Act proposed to do and how it would affect people specially Goans; hence, convinced about what was said, the villagers unanimously adopted the resolution.

The panchayat did not allow a discussion on the resignation of the convener of the Garbage Management Committee on grounds that the panchayat would discuss the resignation first at their meeting.

However, the member concerned argued that he was elected as the convener by the gram sabha and hence it was for the gram sabha to take a call on his letter but the sarpanch declined to present the matter to the gram sabha.
