Chaos reigns as private mini buses cause traffic snarls

Repeated parking violations and modified horns inconvenience motorists, cause congestion, and noise pollution in port town

VASCO: Most of the private mini bus owners have been parking their vehicles haphazardly at Vasco old bus stand, causing inconvenience to other motorists, and leading to traffic congestion. Some of these buses also have modified horns which are causing severe noise pollution.

Apart from private buses, KTC’s shuttle service had a service booth at the old bus stand. However, the parking of buses here was blocking the footpath and was also causing the traffic jam. Later, the then Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida moved the shuttle service booth near TB Cunha Circle, while private buses were allotted the space where KTC shuttle vehicles were parked.

This had decongested the traffic to a great extent and allowed pedestrians to use the footpath properly. However, the private bus owners re-occupied the space near the footpath.

Locals have complained that instead of parking the buses in a single row, the bus owners park do double parking occupying more than half the road. On the other hand, bus owners have claimed that they still do not have enough space to park their vehicles.
