MARGAO: Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco and NCP MLA Churchill Alemao have asked the State government to treat the coronavirus threat seriously and each of them have made different suggestions in this regard.

Reginaldo has asked the government to close down classes 1 to VII in all schools and to conduct exams for the students as per the syllabus covered till date with remaining portion to be taken up as ‘home studies,’ which the school could monitor through the net.
While pointing out that World Health Organisation has already declared the coronavirus to be pandemic, he said the government should act immediately on the matter as nearly 1.50 lakhs people are infected and the death toll is nearly 5,000.
Reginaldo argued that children are the future who will build and run the country and hence urged the government should take all necessary steps to make living easy for the children and to keep them away from coronavirus.
Meanwhile, Churchill urged the government to provide safety measures and screening units for coronavirus at the railway stations in Goa. “Coronavirus hit Kerala first and people of Kerala are known to travel by trains many of which pass through Goa,” said Churchill.
While acknowledging that screening is arranged at Margao railway station, he said other stations like Karmali, Vasco and Sanvordem also require these facilities as a lot of people get off the trains at these stations as well.
“If the authorities can restrict the football finals to closed door stadium without allowing people inside, the railway stations also have to be sanitised and people going there have to be protected,” he said.
Pointing out that the virus affects both the young and old, Churchill demanded that schools should be closed down as has been done in Pune, Bangalore and Delhi.
