VASCO: Renovated a few years ago, the Children’s Park at Chicalim, which is just a few kilometres away from the Dabolim Airport, is in need of beautification.
Chicalim Comunidade Attorney Raymond Carvalho informed that NOCs have been issued to Chicalim Village Panchayat to carry out the beautification work, however, the local panch claims that the beautification work has been stalled due to National Highway widening work.
The park once considered to be one of the famous places for recreation in the village has turned into an eyesore with stray animals frequenting the place.
Locals claim that dogs and cattle create nuisance in the park and to add to problems, the place has turned out to be a safe haven for the miscreants and beggars.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a Chicalim local said politicians come out with projects but the local governing bodies fail to maintain them.
Stating that the park was renovated in 2013, the local blamed the authorities failed to maintain it.
Chicalim comunidade sources informed that despite issuing NOCs to the panchayat, it has failed to beautify the park.
Ward Panch Yuvraj Volvoikar claimed that the plan to beautify the park was on the panchayat agenda, however, due to the National Highway widening work, the authorities kept the plan on hold. Once the road widening work is complete, the beautification work is likely to commence.
Repeated attempts to contact the Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho proved futile as he was not available for comments.
