VASCO: The Chicalim gram sabha on Sunday adopted a resolution to write to the Planning and Development Authority (PDA) not to allow housing projects on hills in the village.
The gram sabha members also emphasised on reviving water bodies and recharging ground water.
At the extra ordinary gram sabha, locals demanded that the water bodies such as ponds, nullhas and marshy areas be revived and to protected. This, they argued, in turn will help in recharging of ground water table. They also suggested formation of a committee to work towards preservation and revival of water resources.
After a discussion on the issue, the gram sabha adopted as resolution to write to the PDA asking the body not to give any permissions to any housing projects on hills which have “disturbed the water cycle.”
When contacted, Sarpanch Sebestiao Pereira informed that the issue of Coastal Zone Management Plan had also come up for discussion during the meeting. People were annoyed as there was no official from GCZMA to explain the CZMP and clear doubts of the locals.
The sarpanch also informed that the panchayat is likely to write once again to GCZMA asking it to send an expert to the village to clear the doubts of the villagers on the CZMP issue.
