Child marriage called off after GSCPCR intervention

MARGAO: Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has taken serious note of an incident of child marriage involving a 17-year-old girl, which SCAN reported to the Commission.

It is learnt that the girl’s father wanted to hold the marriage, but after discussions with the police and GSCPCR, he had agreed to call off the same.
The Superintendent of Police, Margao, was asked to enquire into the incident, take action accordingly and submit a report.
At present, the case is being handled by Child Welfare Committee, South Goa. The GSCPCR will also closely monitor the matter.
