PANJIM: Students and youth held a silent march through the streets of Panjim to create awareness about the facilities of Childline a national 24-hour helpline for children in need care and protection.
The network and its volunteers are working in 291 cities of the country, including Goa where children in need are linked to long term rehabilitation and care.
The Childline Goa is organizing a “Childline se Dosti” week long programme to create awareness about the service where people can call 1098 if they see children being abused, lost, in need of shelter, etc.
As part of the programme the Childline volunteers marched from Panjim church via 18th June Road and back to Institute Piedade besides also tying “childline se dosti” bands to police officers at the police station, officers at the deputy collector’s office and motorcycle taxi riders.
Other programmes scheduled for the rest of the week include installing a kiosk at the Ponda bus-stand, besides outreach programmes and activities for children. The group will also visit various government offices to create awareness and similar programmes in Arambol, Panjim bus-stand etc.
