PANJIM: The village panchayats of Chimbel, Curca-Bambolim-Talaulim and Siridao-Palem on Sunday unanimously resolved to oppose and reject their inclusion in the Greater Panjim Planning and Development Authority (GPPDA).
The 11 members present at the Chimbel gram sabha unanimously passed a resolution opposing the inclusion of the village in the GPPDA.
Chimbel residents complained that every year from March-May, the village faces acute water shortage. They claimed that there has been no improvement in the PWD water supply for past 10 years. They alleged that a large number of trees, which are over 50-100 years old are being cut to facilitate housing projects, which resulted in the depletion of groundwater level.
At Curca-Bambolim-Talaulim gram sabha, all 11 panchas were present while the local St Andre MLA who was specially invited for the same however remained failed to turn up.
Strongly opposing the PDA, the villagers claimed that PDA will spell disaster for the village.
“We want our salt pans, our mountains and especially peace in the village. PDA is just a back door entry for the land sharks and nothing else. PDA has not been constituted in the interest of the villagers but for vested interest,” the villagers charged.
At Siridao-Palem gram sabha, the locals said that the present village infrastructure cannot handle the existing population and if the village comes under PDA, there will be land conversion, which will lead to more residential buildings in the village.
People further claimed that the village has been facing the acute water shortage throughout the year and if there is more population then the situation will go out of hand.
