PANJIM: A delegation of Chimbel villagers along with Zilla Panchayat (ZP) Member Girish Uskaikar met Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and discussed the controversial proposed new old-aged home project in the village.

The villagers have opposed the 40-bedded project which is proposed in Survey No 24/2 and had staged a protest to save the trees from being felled at the site on Sunday.
Fr Sylvester and Fr Ronaldo of Carmelite Monastery, Aquem-Margao explained that the entire plot area in Survey No 24/2 where new old-aged home project has been proposed belongs to the Carmelites Church and requested the Chief Minister to revert back the property to the Carmelites.
The delegation suggested that an unused building situated nearby could be renovated or demolished and rebuilt for the proposed project. The priests assured the Chief Minister that the land would be utilised for the welfare and benefit of Chimbel villagers.
The Chief Minister assured them that he would discuss the matter with the Director of Provedoria at the earliest and resolved the same. The delegation told the Chief Minister that the Institute of Public Assistance (Provedoria) had issued a tender for cutting the century-old 35 standing trees for the purpose of new old-age home project and appealed to him to protect and preserve these trees.
