Chinchinim feast celebrated with pomp, gaiety

MARGAO: The feast of Our Lady of Good Hope was celebrated with pomp and traditional gaiety at Chinchinim.

MARGAO: The feast of Our Lady of Good Hope was celebrated with pomp and traditional gaiety at Chinchinim. 
Thousands of people from all walks of life participated in the festivities as the village wore a festive look coinciding with the annual feast. People sought blessings of Mother Mary by attending the Masses held in the Church since morning.
Fr Simon Fernandes, in his sermon, underlined the need to emulate the virtues of Mother Mary to lead a good life. He stressed on the need to have good neighbourly relations and to share love and compassion with each other as shown by Mother Mary.
The evening saw people thronging the popular week-long Chinchinim feast fair, which will wind up only on coming Sunday.
The police made elaborate traffic and security arrangements for the smooth conduct of the celebrations.
Meanwhile, the feast of Our Lady was celebrated with religious fervour at the Holy Spirit Church on Sunday evening. The Statue of Mother Mary was carried in a procession by children around the Church compound.
At Grace Church, members of the Margao Tourist Taxi Owners  Association celebrated the feast of Our Lady of  Vailankanni at the Grace Church, Margao, while Our Lady Vailankanni Taxi Drivers Association, Margao held their annual litany near the Margao Municipal Square.
