Chinchinim VP takes action against illegal piggery, dumping of waste

MARGAO: Pursuant to an inspection conducted by the Chinchinim village panchayat of an alleged illegal piggery and site for dumping mixed garbage at Palmar Grande, the panchayat has issued a show-cause notice to those running that establishment along with directions to stop the activities being carried out.

The inspection was carried out by the panchayat led by Sarpanch Valentino Barretto in the presence of panch members, health inspector, complainants and other villagers.

However, given that the panchayat has not yet received the inspection report from the sanitary inspector, the panchayat has also written to Chinchinim Primary Health Centre (PHC) asking them to take action urgently.

“With the issue in the public domain and most of the mixed garbage is been brought from the coastal hoteliers, will the Goa State Pollution Control Board act on the hoteliers so they have proper segregation at source and material handling facilities so the villagers are not burdened due to some contractors, who without any proper legal or authorised facility, carry out business in the lure of money from the hoteliers,” questioned Chinchinim  panch Frank Viegas.

“The government should focus more on tackling the garbage issue by keeping in mind that our State is a major tourist destination,” Viegas added.

It may be recalled that this issue has been subject of heated discussions in Chinchinim and was raised at the gram sabha too.
