BICHOLIM: Panchayats in Bicholim taluka have expressed displeasure over the chocked gutters due to dumping of mud while laying telephone cables.
Speaking to Herald, some of the panch members expressed anger that neither the private telephone company nor the PWD has taken any measures to resolve this issue. A private telephone company was allowed to lay cables by the roadside after the PWD gave them permission.
Even as the digging work was done during summer season, in most of the panchayats in Bicholim the workers employed by the company did not dump the mud at proper place. Due to this most of the mud went into the nearby gutters choking the entire stretch of the gutter.
“It is surprising that the PWD had given permission to dig the ground, but the company did not do the work properly” Mulgao Sarpanch Prakash Arondekar said adding, “many of the gutters are totally blocked with the mud and even after several pleas, the PWD is not ready to desilt it.”
As per the report several gutters in Mulgao are chocked because of this work and the residents faced severe problems after the first rains. “We had to face real difficulty as the water was on roads and there was also possibility of accidents. This is just the beginning and the entire monsoon season is still pending,” Arondekar said.
