PERNEM: The Chopdem Circle beautified during the tenure of former chief minister through the GTDC by spending crores of rupees lies in a state of neglect and is rusting into pieces.
The beautification projects were undertaken on both sides of the road from the Chopdem bridge till the Chopdem circle under the ‘Swadesh Darshan’ scheme have turned into an eyesore and now lie in an abandoned state due to lack of maintenance.
The trees planted in between the dividers and the sculptures installed at the circle are in a state of neglect too. The iron compound encircling the traffic island has corroded too while the algae has clogged the filters in the fountain and has affected the circulation of water.
Meanwhile, Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar had directed the officials of Irrigation Department to review the state of the project. He had also directed them to repair the street lamps which stand parallel to the road. The officials were also asked to clear the encroachments on the footpath from Arambol Tinto junction to Palye plateau.
